I'm a professional photographer. I got tired of dragging my D3,D200 or other large cameras around, and worrying about it getting damaged. I decided to buy a camera just for fun that could fit in my purse and I wouldn't have a heart attack if it broke. Well I didn't hold that high of expectations of the camera, but after getting it, I've had a lot of fun with it. Not the most amazing pictures come from it (I am used to very high quality pictures), but they are good enough shots of my family. It's easy to use, really easy to set, FAST, and good low light. You don't always need the flash. It's very small, and can fit easily in my purse (that are all quiet small purses actually). This is a perfect camera if you just want some fun shots that are clear, and you want an easy to use fast camera. This is NOT good for "professional" type shots (why do people write reviews of these cameras and get all down on them for not being professional grade cameras? They never claim to be!).

This is the first digital camera I have ever owned. After years of Polaroid 600 film, I thought it would be time to purchase something a little more cost effective. I did weeks of research and wanted to keep my price range within 0.00 - 0.00.

My wish list:
1. High resolution
2. Easy to use with an auto feature
3. Possible HD video recording
4. Lightweight

This camera is everything and more. Because I'm still working out the settings, I basically use everything in auto mode. There are enough feature on here to confuse someone who knows absolutely nothing about digital photography.

My only minor complaint is that on auto, the pictures it takes during night aren't very good. This could be easily resolved if I look up the different settings for taking better night time pictures. I want to use this while I go on road trips and watch bands play, so it has to do well at night.

It states that it has 14.1 MP, and I believe it. I took a picture of myself, and I was disappointed. The camera did so well that I could see every blemish, pore, and freckle. It was amazing.

If you need something that is compact, takes amazing pictures, and continually delivers great features, this is a camera for you. The great part of this camera is the functionality and the ease of use. You will not be disappointed.

Do NOT buy this camera if you want to shoot concerts! - Ashley -
This is supposed to be the newer version of the Canon Powershot SD780 IS. I purchased this camera after being told the sound quality in movie mode would be comparable to the 780IS. That could not be FURTHER from the truth. When they updated this model Canon must have done something to greatly reduce the sound quality on the camera. I took this camera to a music festival and all videos from the music festival sound horrible. Every time the song had any kind of bass in it, the sound just fizzled out. I could not be more disappointed in this camera. Canon please bring back the good sound quality of the 780IS!!



Not as perfect as I'd hoped for - Brian -
This camera is very pocketable and takes good pictures most of the time - exactly what I was looking for, for a "social" camera.

Only major complaint is the camera majorly underexposes shots in outdoor lighting about 20-30% of the time. When taking a picture, the preview screen looks correctly exposed, but then when the shutter is half-pressed the camera focuses and the preview goes very dark. Happens in "P" and "Auto" modes. I've only used the camera for a couple of weeks, and hopefully I can work around this by adjusting the E/V compensation, but for a point-and-shoot I shouldn't have to. Expected better from Canon.
